Celebrating 24 years of sharing dance in the K-W community!
The Contemporary School of Dance (CSD) opened in September of 1997. The school began with two teachers and approximately 75 students. Through dedication and hard work, and with the help of wonderful teaching faculty, Christine Parker-Reid, the school’s founder and Director, has built one of the most reputable schools in the K-W area. Today, CSD has a team of ten faculty providing dancers of all ages with superb dance training in an energetic, nurturing environment and beautiful facility.
CSD’s goal is to provide a welcoming, positive, caring atmosphere for all dancers and provide proper dance training to all students, regardless of age or ability. Students have the opportunity to explore the magic of movement, hone their technical dance skills, benefit from a healthy extracurricular activity, and gain an appreciation for the art of dance. At CSD, dancers love to dance and in the process, make friendships to last a lifetime!
Our littlest dancers enjoy our highly successful Toddler & Me (ages 1.5 – 3) and PreSchool (ages 3-4) programs offered as fall, winter and spring sessions. School-aged students receive progressive training from September to June in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, musical theatre, and PBT clases. We offer examination opportunities in RAD ballet, and ISTD jazz and tap with internationally recognized dance associations, and additional performance experiences with our Dance Company. We do NOT enter competitions. Our Beginner Teen and Adult classes are offered as fall, winter and spring sessions and include a variety of dance styles and levels to appeal to dancers of all ages and experience.
All students receive quality dance instruction delivered by professional teachers who encourage a genuine sense of performance and attend to the unique needs of each student. With our expertise, we are able to encourage and support our students who would like to audition for professional dance schools or post-secondary dance institutions and pursue a career in the performing arts. For many of our students, dance offers a fun and rewarding pursuit and is a great form of exercise. Our students learn valuable life skills that prepare them for success in whatever career they choose, and they create positive memories with their peers to last a lifetime.
- Both of my girls transferred, at a young age to Contemporary School of Dance and after being enrolled in two other schools of dance, we were over joyed to be a part of CSD. Our girls’ love of dance has grown and evolved because of the studio. CSD has a philosophy that surpasses all others. The teachers are warm, welcoming, inclusive, supportive, patient, and positive. They bring care and loving attention to each child’s needs, as they are very accommodating and kind. They are very knowledgeable and have taught our girls so much about proper techniques in a fun and enthusiastic way. They offer separate programs that allow dancers who want to perform more often, the opportunity to do so. The choreography, that is done by the owner, Christine and the teachers, exceeds our expectations every year. They charge minimally for costumes that are always outstanding. We are thrilled with the camaraderie between the older dancers and the younger dancers, as everyone feels a part of a big community. We are so honoured to be a part of such a professional dance company that has a good balance of a “family feel” along with an emphasis on teaching proper techniques. I attribute Lauren and Julia’s passion for dance to your company, Christine, and the teachers. Thank you once again! We are really looking forward to another successful year of dance and our long future with CSD!
– Andrea, Kevin, Lauren and JuliaCongratulations on an absolutely wonderful production. I thought it was so imaginative, so classy and very enjoyable to watch. There is so much talent at the school. Well done! My daughter has fallen in love with performing on the stage – what a fantastic experience. We have thoroughly enjoyed our first year at CSD and look forward to many more years to come. Thank you!
