Contemporary School of Dance has developed its own conditioning classes that we affectionately call “Broccoli”. You know… …you may not like it, but it’s good for you! Our Broccoli classes combine a variety of exercises geared to develop strength and flexibility in specific muscle groups for improving overall dance technique. Broccoli classes are strongly encouraged at the vocational levels in ballet and jazz as we have seen vast improvements in our students’ technique with this class. Broccoli is offered at the Grade 3/4, Grade 5/6, Inter Found/Intermediate and Advanced levels.
Please see current schedule for class times. Maximum Class Size: 10 students for Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6, 16 students for IF/Inter and Advanced classes
In conjuction with our Broccoli classes, we have started introducing ball work to our students and have seen incredible success. Many of the CSD faculty trained with Marie Walton-Mahon in August 2016 to learn her innovative program, Progressing Ballet Technique, which produces impressive results in core stability and muscle memory. We have integrated some of her work into our Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 Broccoli classes and offer an Open Senior Ball class for vocational level students.
Note: Students in Grade 5/6 Broccoli & Ball and Open Senior Ball classes must purchase an equipment kit from the studio to participate. Each kit contains a 5 meter length of theraband, a 10″ ball, a small foam ball, a small rubber bouncy ball, and two hair elastics. Each kit comes in a mesh bag so that items can dry out properly after use, and also has a luggage tag, so the dancers can label their own kit. The cost of the kit is $30.00 (including HST).
Students must supply their own exercise ball. We have limited ball storage at the studio, but we would also like to facilitate students’ home practice. Please ensure that you purchase the correct size of exercise ball for your height.
